Observe the non-verbal communication of locals when interacting with different people (e.g. people they don’t know, people they know, their friends, their relatives). Describe aspects of proximity (e.g. distance as opposed to touching), directness (e.g. direct eye contact) and the degree of explicit non-verbal communication (e.g. gestures and facial expressions). Would you say that non-verbal communication plays an important role of communication among locals? Identify similarities and differences between your culture and the local culture with respect to non-verbal communication. How could you explain them?
